Do you like pie? well, lets see here ..we have pumpkin , pumpkin and more pumpkin! Would you like some real whipped cream with that pumpkin pie? These pies are not made by the "pie maker" but by the twisted and arthritic, yet loving hands of Grandma, the Big M to some, (our mom, she's 80 years old and she's still teaching me her pie making tricks ) and of course..me! We decided to cut back this year.. we're trying to be frugal, with the economy being as such, and so who needs to make the ridiculous amount of 50 pies? ...soo we settled on just 29. Hey, now, it's not like were running a pig farm here.. (oink, oink).. we just like PIE! (yeah, who doesn't right?) pumpkin esp. Wait.. not one of us girls weigh over 115 lbs wet! just ask anyone of us. And the guys now, well Uh.. we raise 'um big ..and healthy and... well..big, they like their taters-n-gravy, and they, too, like PIE! (I think their favorite is humm..pumpkin). Besides, where do you think the saying "Close your Pie Hole" came from? Yeah! We came up with it! ( We also are cooking 6 turkeys, but I think it's 'cause if you spend $99.00 -I spent mine on pie making stuff - the grocery store will give you a free turkey. Go figure.) Back to the pies, I like to save myself just for pies on this day, but I start practicing in August ... You know..like eating them alot ..just to make sure my stomach is good and streeeeetched out! Did you know there are things to know if you want to be a serious pumpkin pie eater? Really. Any pumpkin pie eater will tell you this. First, you don't need a plate, just take the whole pie dish. And no plate is needed with a thin slice 'cause it fits right in the hand. Now, always go easy on the whipped topping, it can be alittle filling. Take big bites, eat fast and don't talk, you know..just.. "Git her done"- then you can go back for more! Try, eating while you walk around, too! (no one will notice that all you've been doing is eating pie..but still be ready with the quick answer of "Grandma made 30 pies.. there's plenty left!" )Oh yeah, keep your fork, for obvious reasons. It doesn't matter if your a eat all your pumpkin first then eat your crust pie eater, but you'd better sneak and bury that plate if you're throwing any of your crust away! Remember those twisted ..yet loving hands? Yeah, they had to crimp all those little crimpy, crimps. And always, remember this no matter how tight your pants feel...There's No DIET in Thanksgiving, ok? There's no D and there's no E! and pie only has 3 letters. Anyway, some one might take you down for using that four letter word! Try repeating these mantras: "Pumpkin is good for me! Save a chocolate, eat a Pumkin! Pumpkins need love too!" Seriously tho, I am truly thankful for all that my family has and I hope your Thanksgiving table is filled with your loved ones (and maybe some pie-of your choice) . I send my love your way to all of you that can't be with us to share our pie and I'll be thinking fondly of you by having another piece of my pumpkin pie. Happy Thanksgiving.
